Order in Council, 28 November 1874 (see Gambia). Local Proclamation, 5 August 1875. Reciting above Orders in Council, except that of 9 January 1863, by which the currency of the Colony is regulated, and de- claring the coins therein specified to be legally current at the rates respectively therein assigned.
Gold Coast Ordinance No. 2 of 1880 (see page 38). The coins in circulation are British gold, silver, and copper, and the following:-

There is no paper currency in circulation. Accounts are kept by the Government in £ s. d. Among the mercantile community and the people geno- rally they are kept in various ways, some being in £ s. d., others in dollars and cents, gallons of oil, or bags, heads and strings of cowries.
CAPE OF GOOD HOPE.
Imperial Currency Act, 33 Vict. cap. 10., extended to the Colony by Order in Council, dated 29 November 1881, from the date of the publication, by the Governor, of the Queen's Proclamation annexed to the Order in Council.
